Visitors to Strawbery Banke can bring a picnic lunch and eat outside on the museum grounds or visit the many options available, both on site and off site, for purchasing food and beverages. For coffee, pastries, assorted beverages, and light snacks, please visit the Museum Store inside of the Tyco Visitors Center. For ice cream, Strawbery Alley is open seasonally at the Jefferson House. If you prefer to take an easy walk into Portsmouth’s historic downtown, you can chose from more than 50 restaurants and cafes—one sure to suit your palate and price range. Once dubbed “the restaurant capital of New England,” Portsmouth offers a seemingly endless choice of menus—gourmet and everyday, ethnic and American, leisurely and fast. While the options are too many to name, there are comprehensive lists available in the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce’s Guide to the Seacoast (including NH and southern Maine), available upon request at (603) 436-3988 or http://www.portsmouthchamber.org/. FIRA (Favorite Independent Restaurant Association), a group dedicated to promoting the independent restaurants of the Seacoast region, publishes an online directory of local independent restaurants at www.localflavor.org.
