1940s Western Flyer Bicycle Restored

Mrs.RandallsRide

Papa Wheelies in Portsmouth generously gave Strawbery Banke's Western Flyer bicycle a tuneup and polish, replacing tubes and doing tire repair and chainwheel cleaning. Today, the bike is back and "Mrs. Randall" can be seen taking it for a spin. Bike history: Surprisingly to us today, bikes weren't usually considered a kids' item until the postwar baby boom, when models and styles specifically built for kids were marketed. They had a serious purpose, getting adults to where they needed to go, and weren't cheap! Our Western Flyer was made by Western Auto. Bikes like this one were sold from their chain of auto parts stores.
